THE EVALUATION AND CONTROL OF CHEMICALS IN POLYSTYRENE MANUFACTURING

The evaluation and control programmes developed by the Dow Chemical Company for the chemicals used in polystyrene manufacture are reviewed. Evaluation techniques used in routine vapour monitoring are described. Closed-loop sampling as a means of controlling and preventing skin contact and its significance in conserving raw materials and keeping the effluent clean is discussed. The importance of the team approach to these programmes is stressed.
