Lynne joined British Petroleum International in 1966 working in the Analytical Branch, at the Sunbury Research Centre. During the late 1970's she moved into the research and development of novel sampling and analytical methods for the determination of airborne contaminants and was involved in some of the initial development and testing of diffusive samplers and thermal desorption analytical techniques. In 1982, she transferred across to the Group Occupational Health Centre as a hygiene technician, and moved up through the ranks to senior hygienist, working on both down and upstream issues within the HSE Central Resource Group with a global remit, but focused mainly on the BP Upstream activities. At the start of 2004, she was moved to the HSE Exploration & Production Technology Group (EPTG) and is now part of the Operations Capability team and is involved in all the aspects of occupational health protection for BP EPTG worldwide.

Lynne has been an active member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) since joining in 1983, serving on the Conferences committee for many years both as publicity secretary and Conference organiser; she has also been secretary of the standards committee and is currently a member of Marketing and Education and Training work groups. Lynne has been a Council member for both BOHS and the former British Institute of Occupational Hygienists (BIOH) and was made a Fellow of the then British Institute of Occupational Hygienists (BIOH) in 1994. She is also a Fellow of the Energy Institute.
